"We try to be too reasonable about what we believe. What I believe is not reasonable at all. In fact, it's hilariously impossible. Possible things aren't worth much. These crazy impossible things keep us going." - Madeleine L'Engle

share your thoughts
- Mark says that part of spiritual maturity is caring less and less about what people think of you and more and more about what God thinks of you. Do you feel like you are missing out on blessing because you're too afraid of looking foolish?

I have tried and tried to get away from this book study and by extension this call on my heart that there's got to be a way to facilitate an encounter with God that doesn't involve so much liturgy out of synch with culture. I mean, this weekend when David announced that "the banquet" was prepared in his most sincere and uplifting voice, how disappointing to be fed a piece of pita and a drop of juice.
So here we are again and you can thank Angela for pointing out that Spring Hill is doing this book as a whole worship/small group experience (way to get the competitive juices flowing). Thanks to Ken & Laura for sharing similar frustrations. Thanks to Eric for bringing back a recent experience of change. Thanks to Deb for reminding me that you can ignore it all you want, but God's call is relentless and when you go looking for it, it justs keeps going and going and going...
my foolish wishlist for church
- worship experiences that don't assume my husband is on board with the whole God thing
- Sunday school teachers that don't assume my child is on board with the whole God thing
- welcoming & inviting to those with differing beliefs and actually respecting them and their faith walk
- more concerned with being Christ followers than being Christian
- challenging people to live like their blessed to be a blessing
- not challenging people to sing hymns & recite creeds they don't necessarily get
- excellence in worship based on the Spirit's presence not on the mechanics of worship
... Oh, I'm just getting started, but I got to go right now
My foolish wishlist for peace...
I have to preface.. I don't think these ideas are foolish. But then again.. I've never really bothered myself with what other people think... well, since I left high school anyway.. and that was more out of self-protection than anything else.
~ meaningful worship designed around praise and joy
~ varied opportunities of prayer, meditation, music, faith expression
~ open-door policy and practice in worship, fellowship, service opportunities- for the seeker, the non-English speakers, the non-committal, the 'other'
